Three ways you can repair your jewellery at home

Let’s face it, when your jewellery breaks, it can be pretty disheartening. Whether it’s a piece that you wear every day, or whether it’s the family heirloom that you take out for special occasions. And jewellery repairs can be rather expensive. Many of the best jewellers in Sydney do repairs for all types of jewellery. Still, it's good if you can do it yourself if you can and save yourself some money. Here are three ways that you repair your jewellery at home.

Replacing broken clasps

Clasps are the part of the necklace which join it together. Occasionally, damaging the clasp, by either not wearing the necklace properly or not taking it off properly, can result in the clasp breaking, meaning that the necklace can’t join together anymore. In order to repair the necklace, you’ll probably either need to bend the clasp back into shape if it’s bent or buy a new clasp if it’s broken. As well as selling new clasps, there are many stores in Sydney that will fix your necklace and perform other jewellery repairs as well.

Fixing and replacing earwires

Earwires are the parts of an earring that allow it to attach to the ear. If they happen to become worn out or if they break, you can replace them. You need to be aware of the type of metal that your earwires are made out of, so that you can eliminate any possibility of allergic reactions occurring. In order to change the earwire, it needs to be attached to the rest of the earring by a jump loop. Open up the loop, remove the old earwire and replace it with a new one.

Untangling necklaces and chains

This is something that is more of a minor annoyance than a massive repair job. To untangle necklaces and chains, all you need is patience and concentration. However, if you feel that you just can’t do it, there are many places that do jewellery repairs in Sydney that would be more than happy to untangle your necklaces for you.
