How to customise your wedding ring this winter

When it comes to customising your wedding ring, there are a wide variety of options on the market that you can choose from. Getting perfect custom jewellery in Sydney is easy with this helpful guide:

Choose a precious metal

When selecting what metal to use for women's wedding ring, you should consider your budget and the style your wishing to coordinate with your partner. With a vague idea, you will want to consider these four metals, which each reflect individual benefits:

1. Rose gold – one of the cheapest and most durable metals, rose gold is perfect for accentuating precious coloured gemstones and an ideal frame for wedding rings carrying a vintage style.

2. Yellow gold – a traditional choice, yellow gold, although slightly more expensive is exceptionally malleable, lending itself to many intricate styles and patterns.

3. White gold – carrying a silvery white colour, white gold is a perfect modern contrast to many different gemstone shapes and styles. Although malleable and extremely strong, white gold may require rhodium re-plating to preserve the shiny white colour.

4. Platinum – one of the rarest of the four metals, platinum maintains its white sheen, is exceptionally durable and hypo-allergenic. Although it will not require the same maintenance as white gold, platinum does carry a higher expense – measuring its rarity amongst the current market today.

Choose a setting

Traditionally settings with wedding rings are less elaborate – however, it is essential to ensure that you pair your wedding ring to the style of your engagement ring, which in contrast can seem extremely extravagant. Here are a few of our favourite settings to consider:

Plain bands : You might want to consider for yourself, and your partner a simple gold band, which not only complements the engagement ring – but with a customised engraving will be extremely personal to you both. Alternatively, you might want to chat with your jewellery expert about customising the metal into a shape that is tailored to your taste.

Prong setting: A prong setting contains a diamond encased in a metal basket – secured with between four to six metal prongs. For wedding rings, consider a solitaire setting – which means a single diamond which will complement your engagement ring and impress friends and family.

Pave setting: a setting which includes small previous gemstones placed side by side in tiny metal baskets, secured by small metal prongs. The result is a paved appearance, from which the pave setting derives its name.

Choose a precious gemstone

This selection in particular is definitely up to the individual brides taste. Whereas diamonds might be the traditionally preferred gemstone for an engagement ring – nowadays brides are happy to veer away from non-traditional choices.

Therefore beyond diamonds, feel free to consider alternatives choices which can range from rubies, sapphires, emeralds and even more glamourous coloured diamonds.
