Promise rings: Everything you need to know

You might have heard of the rise in popularity of promise rings in recent years. Now more than ever, they’ve become one of the most sought-after pieces of jewellery in Sydney!

If you’re wondering what promise rings are all about, read on to have your questions answered.

What are promise rings?

The concept of promise rings isn’t new in the modern world. In fact, these rings were used in ancient times to serve as physical forms of promises, especially between couples.

However, it’s only in the past fifteen years or so that promise rings became widely known to us. At present, they’re often worn to symbolise the commitment that a couple has for each other.

How do promise rings differ from engagement rings?

You might be thinking, ‘if promise rings represent a couple’s commitment with each other, aren’t they then similar to, say, custom engagement rings?’

The quick answer to this is that they can be similar in the way that they both symbolise commitment. However, the meaning that a promise ring holds is not generalised to getting married.

While accepting an engagement ring specifically indicates the desire and willingness of a couple to be married, promise rings can signify friendship, loyalty, faithfulness or any other personal vows.

Promise rings can mean many things. It’s only the wearer and the giver that truly knows and understands the promise that the ring holds.

Who can wear promise rings?

Anyone can wear promise rings! There are no rules as to who should wear one or how the ring should look. What’s important is the deep meaning that the piece carries.

How do you present a promise ring?

Unlike engagement rings, promise rings are not presented ‘on one bended knee’. Whether you prefer to give it over a romantic candle-lit dinner or on a random occasion, it’s completely up to you.

How is a promise ring worn?

There’s no custom as to how a promise ring should be worn. In most cases, it is worn on the left ring finger, especially when the nature of the promise gives an intention to get married.

Others prefer to wear them on their little fingers to signify a ‘pinky promise’. Some even wear them as pendants or as charms for their bracelets. However you decide to wear it, it won’t matter.

Promise rings are more than just pieces of jewellery – they are testaments of commitment that you can cherish forever. Express your love and endearment with a promise ring today!
