How engagement rings can cause trouble (sometimes)

Wearing a stunning engagement ring is undeniably a part of many women’s life goals. Being betrothed to the right person is something we all want to scream to the world—and having a dazzling jewellery piece around our ring finger is one great way to do so.

However, there are a few scenarios where wearing an engagement ring can, in fact, cause trouble. You may not think of them at first. But once you encounter them, they’ll certainly get on your nerves.

Here are three inconveniences behind wearing engagement rings.

Your engagement ring might affect your working life

A survey by ForbesWoman found that in a job interview, 21% believe that engagement rings can take a toll on a woman’s application.

While it is reasonable to think that engagement rings are a sign of stability (which is pretty good for a job application, if you ask us), you must take note that employers are bound to watch out for candidates who are likely to become pregnant in the near future and eventually quit work to raise a family.

Also, it’s extremely annoying to be in a position where you find out that your engagement ring has become the talk of the whole department. The last thing you need at work is opinions of your officemates regarding the jewellery you’re wearing and relationship with your fiancé.

Crooks have their eyes on you

Diamond engagement rings draw the attention of robbers. Given their costliness, jewellery pieces are among the biggest targets of thieves that’s why it’s important for engagement ring wearers to watch out for them especially in public places.

There have been lots of cases where robbers snatch expensive rings—either forcefully or stealthily—from people’s fingers. It would really suck to have a timeless-looking engagement ring stolen from you especially if you haven’t hired an insurance company to take care of lost jewellery.

Your movements are limited with a ring on

Engagement and wedding rings are expected to be worn at all times. However, keeping them on in certain scenarios can lead to safety and hygiene issues among others.

There are lots of things that people should never do with engagement rings on. Some of them include:

Water-oriented activities

Cold water can make your hand shrink a bit because of ‘vasoconstriction’. With a little movement, it may cause your ring to slip off your finger. We’ve all heard about people losing their rings in the drainage while doing dishes, right? It can happen to you too!

Sports

Working out or playing sports with an engagement ring on can damage the ring or cause injuries to you and other people you come in contact with in the field.

Sleep

Always take off halo engagement rings (and basically all types of jewellery) before going to bed because these may injure you.
