What engagement rings are popular?

No matter where you’re looking, finding the perfect engagement ring for you or your loved one can be very difficult. From those shopping for engagement rings in Canberra to Sydney to Melbourne, knowing why specific styles and cuts are the most popular could help you make the decision.

Popular Styles

Two of the most popular styles are solitaire and three stone. Each has a very different appeal, but they have both become a favoured design amongst brides from all over the world.

Solitaire Style

A solitaire style engagement ring has been an icon for generations. The design is stunning in its simplicity, highlighting a single gemstone. There are no distractions from the featured stone drawing attention to it’s radiance. The simplicity of the solitaire style makes it very easy to pair with diamond wedding rings that are subtle or bold. This elegant style is timeless, making it extremely popular. You cannot go wrong with a simple design made to accentuate an exquisite gem of choice.

Three Stone Style

A three-stone style one of the most versatile engagement rings with three spaces to fill with gemstones of your choice. Traditionally, the centre stone is the largest although recently, more designs are featuring three stones of the same size. Being able to vary the types of stones in each of the spaces can help make the ring more affordable, for instance, choosing a birthstone to go either side of a central diamond is cheaper than three diamonds. Each of these gems will be smaller in size to be able to fit across the front of the band nicely, these smaller sizes are help to lower price. One of the most appealing aspects of a three-stone style ring is what it symbolises. The stones of a “trinity ring” are said to represent friendship, love and fidelity and the past, present and future of your marriage. Between its symbolic meaning and a wide range of more affordable combinations this style of engagement ring is a lovely choice.

Popular Cuts

The cut of your diamond or chosen gemstone can make a huge difference to the appearance and character of your engagement ring. The round and princess cuts are the most popular on the market for all the right reasons.

Round Cut

Round cut engagement rings have been the choice of brides for hundreds of years. It is important to remember that there are two different kinds of round cut; old European and brilliant. For a bride looking for a vintage ring an Old European cut could be to her tastes. This cut was designed to bring out the colour of a diamond, capturing light to draw the eye in giving it a unique glow that is absent in modern jewellery. In more recent years, the brilliant cut was developed and has become the most radiant diamond cut on the market. With 58 facets, the modern brilliant cut reflects a magnificent amount of light which gives it an unparalleled sparkle. This is what makes the brilliant cut the most popular on the market.

Princess Cut

Princess cut engagement rings were first manufactured in the 1960s but weren’t popularised until the 1980s. Since then, it has become the second most popular cut available. It is one of the few mixed-cut designs available, using elements of both brilliant and step cuts to give a sense of depth and a stunning sparkle. Most other diamonds display colour in the centre but a princess cut diamond makes colour most visible in the corners giving it a unique appearance. As there is less labour required for this cut, the princess diamond is more affordable than a brilliant.

In addition to these stunning styles and cuts there are many other types available. With this much variety and the availability of custom engagement rings, you are bound to find the perfect match for you or your loved one.
