4 rules for how to accessorise on your wedding day
In a perfect world we’d all only ever dress up for our wedding day once. That does put a bit of pressure on a bride though – there’s no trial run, you just need to get your look right the first time.
Accessories are often the last things chosen for a bridal outfit. After the all-important dress, the matching shoes, the stunning hairstyle and even the ideal makeup, thoughts turn to the jewels (apart from your beautiful cushion cut engagement ring) and trinkets that’ll finish the look off.
But how do you match your accessories like bridal jewellery to your already established look? Well, by following these 4 rules, wedding day accessorising will (hopefully) be a breeze.
Know your whites
It’s likely that you’ll be wearing white on your big day. But did you know that the type of white can have a big impact on the type of metal you choose to accessorise with? Pure, unadulterated white goes best with platinum or silver. Ivory, however, goes best with gold. A ‘diamond-white’ dress – almost indistinguishable from pure white – can go with almost anything. Check with your bridal shop as to which tone, and thus which metals, will work best with your dress.
Lean towards minimalism
‘Less is more’ goes the minimalist creed. And these words apply perfectly to your wedding day jewellery. A beautifully simple pair of earrings could well be all it takes for you to look your very best. Don’t feel compelled to overdo it.
Selecting a headpiece
While a veil is the wedding day standard, other headpiece options can look just as stunning. Fascinators, flower crowns or even a simple hair comb that shows off your wedding day do will do – there’s no need to stick to the standard veil.
Keep it ‘you’
Be sure to keep your wedding day look in line with your signature style. Are you generally a bit more Bohemian or alternative? Let you dress and accessories reflect that. While wedding day imagery can send you in a certain stylistic direction, don’t forget who this day is about – you!
