Sydney’s yellow diamonds remain a fashion statement beacon, taking 60% of the worlds coloured diamond market – still remain a stunning rarity. Worn by celebrities and royalty alike the statement of the yellow diamond has always been to impress, However getting that brilliant yellow diamond to shine and convey all its brilliant colour is as simple as choosing the right cut. Here are three extremely popular cuts to choose in order to improve the already beautiful nature of the diamond.

Radiant Cut

The radiant cut, first developed in 1977 by Henry Grossbard is a stunning combination of both the elegant step cut and the brilliant cut. It contains over 70 facets and is usually square or rectangle in shape with rounded edges. The specific shape of the radiant cut allows a lot of light to filter through the diamond, which in turn allows the colour of the diamond to become pronounced.

Princess Cut

One of the second most popular cuts for all diamonds, it is easy to see why it’s widely utilised. The top of the cut includes a square or rectangle shape, going up in a somewhat inverted pyramid shape, which includes four crisp bevel sides. The princess cut is sometimes alternatively known as the square modified cut and is absolutely perfect for the yellow diamond. The particular style of cut, quite similar to the radiant cut, allows a lot of light to shine deep within the diamond, illuminating the colours of the yellow diamond, in engagement and wedding rings especially.

Cushion Cut

Once known as the old mine – the cushion cut is a slight deviant from the radiant cut with a square/ rectangular base and rounded corners. It draws its name from the cushion like appearance of the gemstone and is widely sort after for its antique and timeless style. The wide shape and cut, as well as its historic roots, has long made it a popular choice for coloured diamonds – particular within yellow diamond engagement rings.
