However, in recent years, the trend towards coloured diamonds has found its way to most jewellery markets – particular the yellow diamond as it’s the most common coloured diamond. With that in mind, here are eight facts about the illustrious yellow diamond that you need to know:
Although yellow diamonds can be found all-over the world, the intense yellow diamonds originate mostly from South Africa.
The most famous yellow diamonds is called The Incomparable. It weighs an impressive 407.49 carats and currently holds the mantle of being the third largest diamond in the world.
Yellow diamonds take about 60% of the worlds coloured diamond quota, this means about 1 in 16500 carats that are mined are yellow diamonds.
One of the most well-known yellow diamonds in celebrity culture to be given was when Paris Hilton received her engagement ring from Paris Lastis, known billionaire. Other celebrities that have helped popularise yellow diamonds include:
a. Kate Winslet who donned a 2.5 million diamond set which included a yellow diamond necklace, earrings and bracelets.

Yellow diamonds with a strong pure shade of colour (known traditionally as fancy yellow diamonds) are nicknamed Canary Diamonds or Zimmy Diamonds.
